The Biden campaign has reportedly established a special task force aimed at reducing the impact of videos that depict the president experiencing moments of confusion or “malfunctioning” in public. This move comes as White House aides grow increasingly sensitive to media coverage highlighting President Joe Biden’s age-related gaffes and strange behaviors, according to Breitbart News.
The White House has dreamt up the term “cheap fakes” to describe these embarrassing videos. One recent example that drew significant attention involved a clip from Sunday showing former President Barack Obama guiding Biden off stage after the president appeared to freeze during a fundraiser.
Another widely circulated video from June 13 showed Biden wandering off in Europe before Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni redirected him back to a group of world leaders watching a skydiving show. A third video captured Vice President Kamala Harris and allies dancing at a Juneteenth event while Biden stood motionless, staring blankly with a seemingly empty smile.
The Biden campaign confirmed the formation of the task force to Politico’s West Wing Playbook, emphasizing its role in mitigating the risks posed by what they term “cheap fakes.” A Biden official noted that it is also the responsibility of social media companies and media allies to help reduce the impact of these videos. “Voters deserve accurate information to inform their choice this November, and our campaign will be vigilant in calling out these lies when we see them,” Biden campaign spokesperson Mia Ehrenberg told Playbook. “We hope media organizations and others with influential platforms follow our lead.”
Trump Campaign Communications Director Steven Cheung responded to the move on Tuesday, stating to Breitbart News: “The truth hurts,” Cheung said. “When the Biden campaign is confronted with that cold, hard reality, they offer ridiculous claims that anyone who clearly sees Biden acting like a brain-dead dope is part of some media-wide conspiracy.”
