Elon Musk, the world’s wealthiest man, is providing Ukraine with access to Space X’s Starlink service which will help Ukrainians communicate with one another as their war with Russia continues to rage. According to CBN News, Musk is remedying the concerning situation in Ukraine of having faulty internet and communication activity since Russia’s invasion last week. After the vice prime minister and head of digital operations in Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, reached out to Musk through Twitter on Saturday asking for his help, Musk quickly replied that his service was made available.
Netblocks reported that disruptions to the internet were registered after explosions were heard in Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, and its second largest city, Kharkiv. Federov wrote on Twitter, “@elonmusk, while you try to colonize Mars — Russia try to occupy Ukraine! While your rockets successfully land from space — Russian rockets attack Ukrainian civil people! We ask you to provide Ukraine with Starlink stations and to address sane Russians to stand.” Musk replied, “Starlink service is now active in Ukraine. More terminals en route.”
According to Musk’s company’s website, “Starlink internet works by sending information through the vacuum of space, where it travels much faster than in fiber-optic cable and can reach far more people and places. While most satellite internet services today come from single geostationary satellites that orbit the planet at about 35,000km, Starlink is a constellation of multiple satellites that orbit the planet much closer to Earth, at about 550km, and cover the entire globe.”
The individuals stepping up to support Ukraine have proven that kindness, generosity, and compassion can overcome any obstacle to help people in need no matter how far. The Ukrainian people have shown their resilience over the past week, and the faith they have in each other along with the hope they hold on to that their needs will be met is inspiring. Thanks to Elon Musk, Ukraine’s communication will be intact, helping them to effectively continue the fight to save their country.
