As Disney Plus and Netflix have faced a decline in membership in the past two years, the Christian streaming service Pure Flix has seen their membership more than double. According to Christian Headlines, executives of Pure Flix attribute their company’s growth to the fact that they fill a need for “hope-filled content.”

Launched in 2015, Pure Flix provides an alternative for families who are seeking cleaner and friendlier content. Among their titles are War Room, The Most Reluctant Convert, and A Thousand Tomorrows. Children’s content includes VeggieTales and The Adventures of Paddington Bear.

Linda Blazy, the chief content officer at Pure Flix, shared that she believes the company is attracting viewership because it fills a void in people’s hearts. Blaze pointed out that after the pandemic and the darkness it brought to so many lives, faith-based entertainment is part of what is helping them overcome their challenges and find hope and joy again. Fortunately, having been launched long before the pandemic started, Pure Flix was already there for them.

Pure Flix’s success is not only attributed to their positive and inspirational messaging, said Blazy, who noted that they are also producing superior content. “I believe that over the last two years, what we’ve really done is increased the quality of the storytelling,” she said. “And we have increased also the quantity of content. We’ve also expanded our genres. … We have really looked at what our members want.”

In the next year, Pure Flix is adding more than twenty original titles. What sets their productions apart from others, said Blazy, is that their entertainment is free of “coarse content.” She explained that foul language will not be heard, and viewers will be able to find whatever genre they are interested in including faith-based drama, action, adventure, and clean romance.

While the public seems to be turning away from mainstream media services like Disney Plus and Netflix, they are being attracted to services like Pure Flix which promises better and cleaner content. Although Disney Plus and Netflix still boast sizable membership, and Netflix recovered some of the members they lost, the competition is heating up with alternatives, giving consumers more and better choices for themselves and their families.
