In Jacksonville, Florida, Southeastern Grocers Inc. (SEG) together with the SEG Gives Foundation has promised to match donations made to Folds of Honor in their stores through their Military Monday initiative. According to Business Wire, from June 20 through July 4, the grocer’s foundation will match weekend in-store donations up to $100,000 every Monday. Southeastern Grocers Inc. is the parent company of Fresco y Más, Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie grocery stores.
The Chief People Officer for Southeastern Grocers, Raymond Rhee, shared that “at Southeastern Grocers, we are dedicated to supporting the communities we serve, especially those who serve us. By doubling down on all in-store Folds of Honor donations with a matching commitment, we are paying it forward to the legacies of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice with their service to our country.” According to Business Wire, Southeastern Grocers Inc. and the Southeastern Grocers Gives Foundation, along with their customers and associates, have donated over $5.5 million to Folds of Honor since 2018.
Folds of Honor is a military charity that provides education assistance to spouses and dependents of fallen soldiers. The non-profit organization has awarded 35,000 scholarships since 2007, and has awarded 6,500 scholarships last year alone. With the mission to serve the families of our heroes who sacrificed their lives for us, Folds of Honor is making sure that they are taken care of by giving them the opportunity to further their education.
With the compassion of those who give, Folds of Honor will be able to reach more families who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Matching each donation, the SEG Gives Foundation is not only raising money for a great cause, they are also spreading awareness of what our families need who have sacrificed a loved one to protect and serve our country.
