U.S. Representative and Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) has shared shocking evidence of the Biden administration’s efforts to censor opposition on Facebook, according to CBN News. In documents subpoenaed from Meta by the House Judiciary Committee, emails reveal that the social media company was being pressured by the Biden administration to remove posts and change their content moderation policies.
Jordan shared an email from a Facebook team member stating that the company was “facing continued pressure from external stakeholders, including the {Biden} White House’ to remove posts.” This email was similar to one shared by Facebook’s president for global affairs, Nick Clegg, who stated in an email that he had “informed his team at Facebook that Andy Slavitt, a Senior Advisor to President Biden, was ‘outraged . . . that {Facebook} did not remove’ a particular post.” It was later revealed to Jordan the “outrage” was over a meme. Clegg reportedly warned Slavitt of the implications the removal would have on the First Amendment, which Slavitt “disregarded.”
Brian Rice, Facebook’s VP of public policy, shared that this incident with Slavitt appeared to suggest that Facebook and the White House were at a “crossroads,” and the social media company began taking steps to repair their relationship with the Biden administration out of fear that they would be penalized for not taking their orders. Facebook then began demoting posts, such as one by Tucker Carlson, even though it reportedly did not violate any rules.
Jordan wrote within a series of tweets showing the evidence, “These documents, AND OTHERS that were just produced to the Committee, prove that the Biden Admin abused its powers to coerce Facebook into censoring Americans, preventing free and open discourse on issues of critical public importance.” So far, his tweets have received more than 24 million views.
