Kirsten Watson, the wife of former NFL star Benjamin Watson and mom of seven shared with The Christian Post how her faith carries her through each busy day and helps her stay positive while focusing on what matters. Watson described the importance of “taking a breath” and talking to God to continue growing with His love and guidance. The executive editor of MomLife Today, co-host of a podcast, and author of Sis, Take a Breath: Encouragement for the Woman Who’s Trying to Live and Love Well (but Secretly Just Wants to Take a Nap), Watson suggested how women can find peace and strength through their faith in God.
According to The Christian Post, Watson suggested that women open up more to God instead of just thinking they are doing everything on their own. Watson explained, “when we do it on our own, we tend to become our own God … and that’s tiring, I don’t think it’s sustainable. I think that’s why there’s burnout.” She added, “it just causes this idea that, ‘I am now God; it is all up to me.’ And I think that’s a dangerous place for believers to be in because we don’t direct the attention back to where it should be.”
Focusing on God’s voice can be difficult, suggested Watson, especially when it comes to social media and parenting. Viewing what others are doing on social media can cause “doubt and comparison” which hinders growth and joy. Instead of comparing, Watson reminded everyone of the importance of seeking God’s Word when it comes to “identity and value.” Watson said, “God’s given me my own lane. He’s giving me my journey, my husband, my kids, my story. And I want to do my story well, and it’s very hard to do my story well if I’m always comparing and contrasting,” adding that “our lane is specific; no one else can duplicate it.”
In her new book, Sis, Take a Breath: Encouragement for the Woman Who’s Trying to Live and Love Well (but Secretly Just Wants to Take a Nap), Watson shares encouraging words and inspirational stories that motivate readers to seek an understanding of their relationship with God. She wants women to know that “God is with [them],” and is providing them with the strength and support they need to get through each day. Taking a moment to pause and reflect with God, Watson suggests, can change one’s life as it will replace feelings of doubt with peace, joy, and strength.
