The Los Angeles Dream Center has partnered with Kershaw’s Challenge for the ninth year to host a major back-to-school event for underprivileged kids. According to CBN News, the two organizations will host the event on August 6, and will distribute backpacks filled with essential school supplies to children in need. Calling it the ‘Back-to-School Bash,’ Dream Center co-founder Matthew Barnett shared that this is one of the most eagerly awaited events they participate in to show the children of Los Angeles that they are cared about and loved.
Barnett shared that the last couple of years for their children has not been easy, but this event shows them that they matter and are looked after. According to Clayton and Ellen Kershaw, 3,500 backpacks are ready to be distributed to the children and they expect over 5,000 people to attend the event. The Kershaw’s shared that they are anticipating more backpacks than ever this year, and are really excited to be hosting their signature event again which includes engaging carnival activities such as a petting zoo, batting cages, a water slide, and more fun for families. Additionally, Pair of Thieves will donate thousands of pairs of socks and Baby2Baby will also distribute essential kits for toddlers at the event.
The mission of Kershaw’s Challenge is to “encourage people to use whatever God-given passion or talent they have to make a difference and give back to the people in need,” and that “God can transform at-risk children and neighborhoods through the benevolence and impact of others.” The charity was founded by L.A. Dodgers Pitcher Clayton Kershaw in 2011, and has thus far raised $14 million to support children and families around the world.
As many families are facing difficult financial circumstances, Kershaw’s Challenge and the Los Angeles Dream Center are giving them a piece of relief as they help children get prepared for school with more confidence heading into their new school year. Hosting a fun-filled, family-friendly event makes the distribution even more special as it unites attendees and participants in engaging activities that will give them beautiful memories. With each backpack distributed comes a sense of hope, faith, and dignity for each child who receives it, and that is a great way to begin a new school year.
