On Friday morning, the Supreme Court of the United States announced its decision in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization to overturn Roe v. Wade. According to CBN News, though the decision on abortion now rests with the states, pro-life advocates are celebrating the milestone and praying that more states will choose to value life and protect the rights of the unborn.

In response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision that Roe v. Wade is unconstitutional, Franklin Graham of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association shared that this is “one of the most significant rulings in [his] lifetime.” He added, “Roe v. Wade, passed 49 years ago, has resulted in the deaths of over 63 million innocent children in this country. Sadly, this decision is not an end to abortion—it pushes the battle back to the states. My prayer is that every state will enact protections for children in the womb and that our nation will value life and recognize the rights of our most vulnerable.”

Noting that the battle now turns to the states, CBN News reports that Victoria Cobb, the president of The Family Foundation of Virginia shared that this is a celebratory moment for babies throughout the nation, “but tomorrow the work begins in Virginia to protect life throughout the Commonwealth.” The newly-elected president of the Southern Baptist Convention commented on the celebration as well, noting that their commitment to helping young mothers and ministries in need will continue as they provide support for low-income families, foster care and adoption agencies, and other ministries.

With many commenting that Roe v. Wade was wrong from the start 50 years ago, the pro-life movement is celebrating the decision after dedicating a tremendous amount of effort to advocating for life and the protection of the unborn. Still, the battle to fight abortion will continue in states as they take on the decision themselves. Prayers for the rights of the unborn will continue in faith that leaders across the country will choose life.
