The Christian international relief organization Samaritan’s Purse, led by Franklin Graham, has reached an incredible $1 billion in annual revenues last year, according to Christianity Today, and now ranks number 23 in the Chronicle of Philanthropy’s 25 largest US charities. In addition to monetary support, the faith-based organization has attracted the support of people who unite in their mission to help others reaching the neediest people and places worldwide. The growth of Samaritan’s Purse has blessed millions of people around the world who have received their humanitarian aid and assistance in the wake of crises and emergencies.
According to Christianity Today, “the organization’s 160,000-square-foot warehouse and offices in North Wilkesboro employ 385 people who buy, repair, maintain and retrofit millions of dollars’ worth of medical equipment, generators and water filtration systems, much of them donated. The warehouse has six emergency field hospitals ready to ship, four with tents, hospital beds, anesthesiology equipment, X-ray machines, and surgical suites—all engineered to fold into a plane’s fuselage. There are also miles of plastic tarps, mountains of clothing and boxes full of small brown teddy bears with the Samaritan’s Purse logo—a cross inside a circle.”
Most recently, Samaritan’s Purse has been on the ground in Puerto Rico to provide aid to those impacted by Hurricane Fiona. According to Samaritan’s Purse, the organization has airlifted over 16 tons of emergency relief supplies including shelter tarps, water filtration units, and portable family water containers. Additionally, their work in Ukraine has helped an estimated 5.5 million Ukrainians with medicine, food, and water, according to Christianity Today. Shortly after Russia’s violent invasion of Ukraine earlier this year, Samaritan’s Purse was quick to send urgent help and prayers to those suffering. The organization set up an emergency field hospital in Lviv, and is now supporting thirty medical facilities across the country.
The work of Samaritan’s Purse stretches to all ends of the earth, and much of their work is done without coverage. From helping farmers plant crops and operating medical facilities in countries around the world to helping people recover from disasters right here in America, Samaritan’s Purse is a powerful force showing people around the world that faith, hope, and love is always within reach.
