While trying to put the safety of Americans in jeopardy with their anti-police banter and defund-the-police movement, the socialist “squad” is reportedly paying over one million dollars combined on their private security to ensure their lives are safe. According to the Washington Free Beacon, each “squad” member has a significant budget to protect their own lives, but they do not think everyday Americans deserve to be kept safe like them.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez (D-NY) has been paying nearly $200,000 herself to ensure her safety is protected by armed police, but is a staunch advocate for making sure no one else out of her league has such protection. In addition to believing that she is the only person whose life deserves protection, AOC also believes that her security guards are the only police who deserve good pay. AOC recently attacked NYC Mayor Eric Adams for raising the pay of police officers after seven years of no increase.
AOC said spending money on such a “militarized” group is sending the message “about who we are and what we care about.”
Rep. Cori Bush (D-MO), has spent the most out of the “squad” with a whopping $680,000 on personal security. Her strong push to defund the police makes her enormous police budget puzzling.
After calling the Minneapolis Police Department “rotten to the root,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn) is yet another member of the “squad” who is taking $77,000 worth of help from those she calls “rotten.”
Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) expenditure of just $7,900 on private security is deceiving. It is New York taxpayers who are supplementing his extensive security after he requested police guard his home after the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021, according to the New York Post.
The behavior of these “squad” members is not unique for socialists. In history, socialists who boast equality for all find themselves far above others and justify the different treatment. Whereas they as leaders have food, money, and police protection, they believe that everyday people do not deserve such luxuries. Actively trying to disarm and defund the police while ensuring their own armed security guards are always near them is an obvious hypocrisy that appears to be influencing more and more American officials who ensure their own safety while exposing the people they lead to harm.
