More than 9,000 migrants at the southwest border have been apprehended each day in the month of May thus far, according to Texas DPS spokesman Lt. Chris Olivarez who reported the striking number to Breitbart. A significant spike in apprehensions since the Biden administration’s previous reining month of December with 7,200 per day, this new record is likely to soon be broken as Title 42 is set to end this week. Olivarez explained that if the number of apprehensions continues at the same rate, border patrol agents could apprehend as many as 279,000 migrants this month.

According to a tweet shared by US Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz, there were 54,951 apprehensions in just one recent week. This number does not include got-aways, which Ortiz listed as being at approximately 18,698 reported.

Ortiz also noted that in reviewing this one week alone more than $700,000 was seized along with 101 pounds of cocaine, over 1,000 pounds of Marijuana, over 2,700 pounds of meth, and 138 pounds of fentanyl. In addition, 2 agents were assaulted, and six sex offenders and seven gang members were also caught.

The danger at the southern border is already escalating to record levels with the last few days of Title 42 still in place. Border patrol agents and southern residents are bracing themselves for an unprecedented breach of safety as border resources will be strained amid the anticipated surge of migrants entering the United States once Title 42 expires.
