In response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the mayor of Southlake, Texas has declared June “Sanctity of Life Month” to commemorate the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case. According to CBN’s Faithwire, Mayor John Huffman didn’t believe he would ever see this decision and wanted to mark it not just with one day’s celebration, but with a month-long dedication. Huffman is also celebrating life by donating to pregnancy centers as part of an effort of his wife’s to hold a community baby shower drop-off event for expectant mothers.

Huffman shared that his wife told him “If you’re going to make a statement, put your money where your mouth is. Let’s do a baby shower,” and Huffman agreed. To hold the event, they opened a trailer and are collecting supplies to help expectant mothers. At the baby shower event, they are accepting pack-n-plays, car seats, formula, diapers, wipes, clothes, and pacifiers among other essentials.

Huffman explained that a local pregnancy center has received many offers of help and assistance since Roe v. Wade was overturned. Huffman added that being pro-life does not stop at birth and that providing resources to help nurture life is essential.

The response to Huffman’s efforts have been positive with many people showing support. Huffman further encouraged support by sharing that regardless of how one feels about the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision, it is important to extend a helping hand to mothers in need of support. By hosting a baby shower event and declaring June “Sanctity of Life Month,” Huffman is setting an example for others to not just celebrate progress, but to take action to ensure it is fulfilled to its full extent.
