PA School Considers Incorporating Social Emotional Learning in Math

A school district in Littlestown, Pennsylvania is considering incorporating Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills into the elementary math curriculum. School board member Jeanne Ewen joined Ainsley Earhardt on FOX and Friends Wednesday morning to discuss why she is against such standards.

Ewen shared that her first thought was questioning what feelings have to do with math. On March 7, there will be a presentation of the program to a curriculum committee. Ewen explained that she tried to research the program but found very little data on its effectiveness because the program only began one year ago.

With the nation’s report card revealing that math proficiency is low, Ewen is raising the alarm on adopting such standards for their school’s math curriculum.
